Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *mánas (“mind”), from Proto-Indo-European *ménos (“mind”), from *men- (“to think”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬀𐬵 (manah), Old Persian 𐎶𐎴𐏃 (m-n-h /manah/), Latin mēns, Ancient Greek μένος (ménos), and English mind. Equivalent to मन् (man, "to think", root) + -अस् (-as).
