Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘨𑘰𑘜𑘲 (rāṇī), from Prakrit 𑀭𑀸𑀡𑀻 (rāṇī), from Sanskrit राज्ञी (rā́jñī). Doublet of राज्ञी (rādnyī). Cognate with Gujarati રાણી (rāṇī), Hindi रानी (rānī).
