สิง

From Old Khmer syaṅa, syaṅ, siyaṅa, sīyaṅa, siṅya, siṅa, sīṅa, siṅ (“to dwell; to reside; to be present; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer សិង (səng).

สิง • (sǐng) (abstract noun การสิง)

1. (of a spirit, especially an evil one) to possess; to occupy; to dwell; to reside.
2. (literary or slang) to dwell; to reside; to remain; to stay.

     เมื่อนางเหยียบดอกบัวนั้น นางให้สัญญาว่า นางชื่อ ปัทมาวดี และเมื่อนางเอาดอกบัวปักที่อุระนั้น เป็นที่หมายว่า พระองค์สิงอยู่ในหฤทัยแห่งนาง

     mʉ̂ʉa naang yìiap dɔ̀ɔk buua nán · naang hâi sǎn-yaa wâa · naang chʉ̂ʉ · bpàt-tá-maa wá-dii · lɛ́ mʉ̂ʉa naang ao dɔ̀ɔk buua bpàk tîi ù-rá nán · bpen-tîi mǎai wâa · prá-ong sǐng yùu nai hà-rʉ́-tai hɛ̀ng naang

     As she steppeth upon the water lily, she giveth a sign that she is clept Patthamawadi. And as she taketh the water lily [up and] placeth [it] in [her] bosom, it is meant [to be understood] that in her heart art thou dwelling.

3. (slang, humorous, of persons) to stick together closely or stay close to each other, as if being one.
