Compound of 折り (ori, “folding”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 折る (oru, “to fold”)) + 鶴 (tsuru, “crane (bird)”).[1] The tsuru changes to zuru as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
