Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *apa (“father”). Cognate to Karakhanid اَبا (apā, “father, bear”), Old Uyghur ʾʾpʾ (apa, “ancestor”), Khakas аба (aba, “father”). Compare also Buryat аба (aba, “father”), Mongolian авга (avga, “paternal uncle”), ав (av, “father”).
