Borrowed from Turkmen Aşgabat, from Persian عشق‌آباد‎ ('ešq-âbâd, literally “city of love”), compound of عشق‎ ('ešq, “love”) +‎ آباد‎ (âbâd, “city”). Alternative spelling of Ashkhabad.[1]
