Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *drákas, from pre-Balto-Slavic *drek- (k-extension of Proto-Indo-European *der- (“to split, to tear”)[1]). Cognate with Latvian draks (“fight”), Lithuanian drãkas (“scuffle, noise”). Synchronically equivalent to *dьrati + *-okъ.
Has been further compared with Ancient Greek δρᾰ́κων (drákōn, “dragon”).
