Etymology
From Gothic 𐌰𐌺𐌴𐌹𐍄 (akeit) or 𐌰𐌺𐌴𐍄 (akēt), ultimately from Latin acētum (“vinegar”), from aceō (“to be sour”). Compare Slovene kis (“vinegar”), Upper Sorbian kisało (“vinegar”) (see *kysati, *kysnǫti, *kysěti, *kyselъ).
