Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish گرك (gäräk), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kẹrge- (need)[1], whence also Azerbaijani gərəkmək. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰚𐰼𐰏𐰚 (kergek /kr²gk/)[2].
