Borrowed from Spanish historia, but with the silent ⟨h⟩ pronounced as /h/, either due to English influence or a desire to differentiate from similar words, as suggested by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF). Attested from the 1960s. Doublet of istorya.
