Etymology

1. From *kroj, from Proto-Albanian *krābnja, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrebʰ-. Compare German graben (to dig), Lithuanian grebti (to rake). 2. Alternativly from Proto-Albanian *krawånj-, from Old High German krauwōn.[1] 3. Or from North-West IE *kna-ye- ‘scratch’, cf. Old Irish -cná, Welsh cnoi, Old High German nōen, Lithuanian knója, Greek κναίω.
