Etymology

First attested in Matrënga's catechism as të mbëshuarë (load, burden). A prefixed form of pëshoj, a variation of the standard peshoj (I weigh), itself verbalized from peshë (weight), from Latin pēnsum (id.).[1][2][3] Compare mësoj and pësoj for morphological development.
