sulli
English
Etymology
From Punjabi ਸੁੱਲੀ (sullī) and then Punjabi ਸੁੱਲ (sulla), a mispronunciation of Punjabi ਮੁੱਲਾ (mullā, “mullah, Islamic religious leader”), derived from Persian ملا (mollâ), from Arabic مُلَّا (mullā)
Noun
sulli (plural sullis)
Usage notes
- The words sulli, mulli, and musalli are slangs used by trolls in Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal to refer to Muslim females. The term "sulli" became widely known after the expose of 'Sulli Deals', an app and website that had taken publicly available pictures and private information of around 83 Muslim females from the internet and created their profiles to auction them. However, there was no real sale of any kind.[1][2][3][4][5]
