Usage notes

Rather than use a noun corresponding to English “teenager”, Welsh will often reword and use this prepositional phrase instead, e.g. pan oeddwn yn fy arddegau “when I was in my teenage years” for “when I was a teenager”, or pobl (ifanc) yn eu harddegau “(young) people in their teenage years” for “teenagers”. Nevertheless, the word arddegyn (“teenager”) has existed since the 1960s.
