Inherited from Proto-Slavic *pǫxyrь, *pǫxorь. Doublet of bachor, bachorz, bachórz (“belly, stomach”), a borrowing from Czech. Compare also mecherz, mechierz, męcherz, męchierz (“bladder”) from *měxyrь, *měxorь (“bubble, bladder, blister etc.”).
