From Proto-Albanian *stānja, from *st-n̥é-h₂-, nasal present of Proto-Indo-European *steh₂- (to stand). Cognate to Latin stō, Old High German stān, Lithuanian stóju and Proto-Slavic *stojǫ.[1]
