մով

From Georgian მოვი (movi) or together with it borrowed from an unidentified third source. See English moff for more. The color sense may have initially referred to the red/scarlet of the fabric, and later drifted to "sky blue" in poetry under the influence of մավի (mavi), as the connection with the fabric was forgotten. Compare Greek μαβής (mavís) on how a color meaning can change when its connection with the etymon is severed.
