برغش

Arabic

Etymology

Unknown, explained as a doublet of بُرْغُوث‎ (burḡūṯ) from a variant *purḡūś- of Proto-Semitic *purḡūṯ- (“flea”). However it may also be from a lost Aramaic word comparing the formation of بَرْغَز‎ (barḡaz, “young of a cow”) and بَزْر‎ (bazr, “seed”). Alternatively, from Proto-Mongolic *bargagusun (“gnat, mosquito”), Kalmyk борһусн (borğusn).
