Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔαρ (éar), Old Norse vár, Lithuanian vasara, Sanskrit वसर् (vasar, “morning”) and वसन्त (vasantá, “spring”), Persian بهار (bahâr, “spring”), Old Armenian գարուն (garun).
