Etymology
First attested in 1876. pirkad (“[of dawn] to break”, originally: “to become red”) + -at (noun-forming suffix), cognate to the stem of piros (“red”) and pirít (“to toast, roast, grill”), with -k (archaic instantaneous suffix).[1]
