Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀤𑀺 (uṭṭhadi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *utstʰā- (whence Sanskrit उत्तिष्ठति (úttiṣṭhati)). Cognate with Nepali उठ्नु (uṭhnu), Gujarati ઊઠવું (ūṭhavũ), Marathi उठणे (uṭhṇe), Assamese উঠা (utha).
