Etymology

Borrowed from Persian فرما (farmâ, present stem form of فرمودن (farmudan)) + -ना (-nā), from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (plmwtn', plmʾd- /framūdan, framāy-/, to order, command). Compare Punjabi ਫ਼ਰਮਾਉਣਾ (farmāuṇā) / فَرماؤنا (farmā'onā), Gujarati ફરમાવવું (pharmāvvũ), Marathi फर्मावणे (pharmāvṇe).
