каждый

Russian

Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic къжьдо (kŭžĭdo), from Proto-Slavic *kъžьdo or *kъžьde. Cognate with Ukrainian ка́ждий (káždyj), ко́ждий (kóždyj), ка́жний (kážnyj), ко́жний (kóžnyj), Belarusian ко́жды (kóždy), ко́жны (kóžny), Old Church Slavonic къжьдо (kŭžĭdo), къжьде (kŭžĭde), кыижьде (kyižĭde), Czech každý, Slovak každý, Polish każdy, Upper Sorbian koždy, Lower Sorbian koždy, kuždy.

The Proto-Slavic form *kъžьde appears to be earlier and was formed from * (compare Russian кто (kto)) + *že (compare Russian же (že)) + *-ьde (compare Russian где (gde)). The form *kъžьdo was (per Vasmer) influenced by *kъto, the ancestor of Russian кто (kto).
