Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čeček (flower); cognate with Azerbaijani çiçək, Bashkir сәсәк (säsäk), Chuvash ҫеҫке (śeśke), Kazakh шешек (şeşek), Kyrgyz чечек (çeçek), Tatar чәчәк (çäçäk), Uyghur چېچەك (chëchek), Uzbek chechak and Yakut чэчик (cecik).
