Etymology
From ܫܠܵܡܵܐ (šlāmā, “peace”) + ܥܲܠܘܿܟ݂ (ʿaloḵ, “upon you”), literally “peace be upon you”; compare the same in Arabic اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ (as-salāmu ʕalayka), Hebrew שָׁלוֹם עָלֶיךָ (shalóm alékha).
Usage notes
- This is used when said to a single male; the feminine singular is ܫܠܵܡܵܐ ܥܲܠܵܟ݂ܝ (šlāmā ʿallāḵ), and the plural is ܫܠܵܡܵܐ ܥܲܠܵܘܟ݂ܘܿܢ (šlāmā ʿallāwḵon).
