From ܫܠܵܡܵܐ (šlama, peace) + ܥܲܠܵܟ݂ܝ (ʿālaḳ, upon you), literally peace be upon you; compare Arabic اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكِ (as-salāmu ʿalayki) and Hebrew שָׁלוֹם עָלַיִךְ (shalóm aláyikh).
