Cognate with Gujarati ચરવું (carvũ), Hindi चरना (carnā), Sindhi چَرَڻُ / चरणु (caraṇu), Rajasthani चरणौ, Punjabi ਚਰਨਾ (carnā) / چرنا (crnā), Nepali चर्नु (carnu), Bengali চরা (cora), Assamese চৰা (sora). Related to चालणे (ċālṇe, “to walk”).
