Etymology
Often assumed to be a derivation of *-mu̇n (“-ty”) with the elative suffix *-iś with a shift *-mu̇niś > *-mu̇ś followed by an irregular shift *-ś > *-s.
Has also been compared with Proto-Turkic *-mïĺ (cf. Tatar -мыш (-mış)).
