Proto-Turkic
Alternative reconstructions
- *kančïk
Etymology
Analyzable as *kaŋ + *-čïk (“diminutive suffix”). Also compared to Proto-Tungusic *kačikān (“puppy”), which probably from an earlier *kaŋčikān. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
Notes
Possibly not a derivation from *k(i)aŋ (“father”), since the semantic change from ("father") to ("female; female dog") with equipping diminutive suffix seems not that possible. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
